1. Sunshine occupied 167 days in Surandai during 2009. During those days nearly 77 days the effect of heat was reduced due to South-West monsoon and the remaining 90 days were too hot. For 40 days the climatic condition was cool and remaining days were dominated by moderate hot season.

Rain:


1. During 2009, the rain was driven by drizzling for 12 days in Surandai.
2. Due to North-West monsoon, 33 days were the rainy day in Surandai during 2009.
3. So, during the normal season, the climatic condition was dull in Courtallam and due to Noth-West monsoon the Courtallam Climate was too good after the usual season.
4. Mostly all the lakes and ponds reached its highest level except ‘Rettaikulam’
5. Due the efforts taken by the trustee members of “Muppidary Amman Kovil”, the water level of “Rettaikulam” was increased slightly.

Agriculture

1. The yield of Paddy, Vegetables and Onion were increased when compared to the last year (2008).
2. Farmers are very happy about the price prevailed in Suranadai market during 2009.
3. During the month of January most of the crops have been affected by “Senthalai Disease”

Business:

1. More than 40 shops were opened and running successfully

“Anmegam”:

1. After 100years, on 06-06-2009 renovation work held at “Srinivasaperumal Kovil” and “Padmavathi Thayar Kovil” located on the bank of ‘Anuman’ river.
2. Like 2008, festival held at “Surandai Sivakamasundari Sametha veerapandiswarar” and “Sivagurunathapuram Sivakamasundari Sametha sivagurunathar Kovil” with out any problem. The trustee members have arranged for “Sapparam procession” on that day.
3. On 29-12-2009 “Prathistai” held at renovated and modernized CS I church in Bungalow Surandai which was build during the British rule, was opened for public. This work was completed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.
4. The “MUHAITHEN Masq” in Surandai was expanded at a cost of Rs. 3 Lakh.
5. ‘Sappara bhavani’ held at ‘Thooya Anthoniar’ church on 29-01-2009.
6. “Iyya Vali" Orchestra by G N Sivachandran was held more than 5 occasions in Surandai and more than 15 occasions in the vicinity of Surandai.
7. A habit of providing free meals for the devotees and public has been increasing in Surandai.

Education:

1. On 10-08-2009 “Poomi Pojai” held to start the construction work of Government Arts College in Surandai. The work is in progress now.
2. MP and MLA have visited Barenbruck Higher Secondary School to distribute the scholarship money to the eligible students.
3. 25th anniversary of ‘Sri Parasakthi Matriculation School’ was celebrated.

Medical

1. During the month of Margali and Karthigai, most of the Surandai people were affected by viral fever.
2. IMA joined with Meenakshi Mission have awarded the best “laparoscopic surgeon” award to Dr. Alagesan.

Road Facility:

1. Earlier there was no proper road facilities and connectivity between Surandai and Sundarapandiapuram. Now the road facilities were improved from SV Karai road till Sundarapandiapuram. In this road an elevated minor bridge (3+9.6m) was constructed and opened for public use. Now the time to reach Sundarapandiapuram from Surandai was reduced to 10 min if you travel by vehicle.
2. The road has been expanded from “Athiuthu’ to ‘Surandai’.

Bus facility:

1. By the effort of “Viyabarikal sangam” a new bus from Surandai to Coimbatore on every Sunday was introduced.

Others:

1. Mr. P. Lingam B.A was elected as the MP for Tenkasi constituency in the election held in 2009
2. More than 10 times the MLA Mr. Karuppasamy Pandian visited Surandai for various functions.
3. Tender was announced to construct a new police station in Surandai. Due to the poor response to the tender, re-tender was also announced during the month of December 2009.
4. “Shenbagakalvai” was cleaned twice for the free flow of drainage water.
5. The road around “Muppidari amman Kovil” was improved.
6. Indian Overseas Bank opened a new ATM centre in Surandai.
7. A “Welcome arch” has been build on the way to “Bungalow Surandai”
8. State level Volley Ball match held for 3 days in Surandai
9. MDMK general secretary Mr. Vaiko visited Surandai once during 2009 to attend a marriage function.
